Our Favorite Things: Time to BBQ

Happy summer! Time to BBQ chicken, pork chops, ribs or pulled meat. We have two favorite sauces for you to try. One is delicious, different and from scratch, and the other one is an easy version that starts with your favorite BBQ sauce!

Molasses BBQ Sauce

Yields about 1 ½ cups.

½ c ketchup

1/3 c dark brown sugar

¼ c molasses

¼ c apricot preserves

2 T yellow mustard

2 T apple cider vinegar

2 T vegetable oil

1 garlic clove minced

1 ½ t chili powder

½ t pepper

½ t hot sauce

Pinch of ground cloves

Pinch of ground allspice


In a medium saucepan, combine all ingredients, except salt, with ½ c water and bring to a boil, stirring well. Let cool and season with salt. BBQ sauce can be refrigerated up to one week.

Awesome Easy Version

Yields 1 ½ quarts.

In saucepan, combine 1 quart of your favorite BBQ sauce, 1 12oz bottle of chili sauce,1 c brown sugar, 1/2 c vinegar, 1/2 a sliced lemon, garlic and sherry to taste, if desired. Simmer 30 minutes, cool and store in fridge.
